DOCitUP uses on-device AI to generate narration instead of uploading your book to a remote server.
The app is built with Kotlin Multiplatform and performs text extraction locally for supported EPUB and PDF files. Its natural voice pipeline uses Kokoro, ONNX Runtime, and phonemizer support to convert written text into spoken audio directly on your device.
In simple terms, the speech model runs locally, helping provide a narration experience that is:

Background Playback on Android
On Android, DOCitUP supports background narration through a foreground media service.
